Jack Flash-Steamrolling produced by-Wizard

As a disclaimer, I must admit that the material I have showcased thus far is dated, but I feel it necessary to cover the top players in the UK hip hop game and give credence to as many different cities/scenes as possible. Once I feel that I have presented you the pantheon of rappers and producers that tickle my fancy, I will shift the focus onto new material.

Huddersfield, with a population of only 146,234, has produced some incredible MCs and producers. Namely: Jehst, Asaviour, Apatight, and Jack Flash. Also, Patrick Stewart.

Jack Flash, a EOW UK Champ and Global Champ (battle rapping), is one of the leaders, if not the king, of a burgeoning West Yorkshire hip hop scene.

This is a group of artists who are truly doing the independent, homegrown thing; and its actually good.  Every time I catch one of the West Yorkshire cyphers, its puts a smile on my face because it reminds me of when my friends and I would get together and basically do the same exact thing.

A one time protege of Jehst, Jack has developed his own style and recently linked up with uber talented Hastings based producer, Wizard. This guy has a ton of material out already and there appears to be no chink in his armor. Always high quality, all the time.

This track is off Jack Flash and Wizard's first foray together and they have recently released a 4 track EP available for download here. You can find all of Jack Flash's biz on Itunes as well. Taste and enjoy.

Sonnyjim-The Pyschonaut (Produced by DJ IQ)

One of Birmingham's best, Sonnyjim, crushes a massive, Jupiter gravity heavy beat from DJ IQ. Much to discuss.

Sonnyjim, CEO of Eatgood Records and its chief lyricist, is a personal favorite of mine. His tracks have a heavy dose of confidence and that is apparent in his delivery. While some of his content may be a little too cannabis laced, I think he pulls it off without coming off as a stoned teenager.  Sonnyjim has tons of material out on the INTERNET, so check him out.

His instagram account: mudinmymalbec, is always showcasing delicious food, a man after my own heart.

DJ IQ, the man behind the head nodding beat, is a freakshow. Currently he is Professor Green's (another Birmingham MC) personal DJ and right hand man, but he will always be associated in my mind with the High Plains Drifter himself, Jehst.

A past DMC champion , the dude has lots of talent and a bright future.

Today is particulary nang, so get outside and have a picnic, after listening and reading of course.

Telemachus feat Jehst-The Sheltering Sky

Absolute banger from the god Jehst

and my favorite producer Chemo, or Telemachus depending on what side of the bed he rises from.

Jehst is far and away my favorite MC of all time, and a lyrical monster. He is a legend in the UK and a cult hero worldwide. Do yourself a favor and begin to celebrate his entire catalog.

Chemo is diabolical and a genius. Making him a diabolical genius. Check his powerful potions here.

Rag-N-Bone Man

Some rather gully and soulful bars from Rag-n-Bone Man, High Focus Records resident crooner. Looking forward to his upcoming EP.

Fliptrix-Cycles produced by: Runone and Molotov

Some would say this young man is ushering in a new era of legitimacy and progression in the UK hip hop scene. Fliptrix put out two albums this year, which you can cop here anddddd here. You can find all his material on Itunes as well..

He is also the bossman behind High Focus Records which has been consistently putting out great album after great album. The work rate and the quality of the product is tip top; Fliptrix's approach to this artform is inspiring and the reason I love hip hop so much.

I chose this track off of his second album that dropped this year 'The Road to the Interdimensional Piff Highway'. Production is handled by the Swiss duo of Runone and Molotov.

Cappo/Sam Zircon-Swagbasco

I've decided to resuscitate this thing and dedicate it to exposing the world of UK Hip Hop to you.

First up, new material from Cappo as he walks the streets of his city documented by the finest of VHS tapes (tracking issues and all). Cappo is a unique and talented lyricist who hails from Nottingham. Like the sheriff in Robin Hood, but way cooler.

 Enjoy! Bless.
